Lauren M.
Lauren grew up in central Ohio and joined the Navy shortly after high school in 2000 with dreams of traveling the world. She spent 16 months deployed in the Pacific, Indian Ocean and Persian Gulf aboard the aircraft carrier USS Constellation as an Aviation Electrician. During her time in the Navy, Lauren developed a deep connection with the sea which eventually drew her to sailing. After the Navy she attended UC Santa Cruz where she took dinghy sailing and keel boat classes. It was there that her love for the sport grew.
After graduating from UC Santa Cruz in 2009, Lauren moved to San Francisco and connected with the sailing community in the Bay Area. Since then, she has spent most weekends sailing the San Francisco Bay and California coast. She has also sailed the Eastern Caribbean from St. Lucia to islands in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
In 2019, Lauren bought her first sailboat; a 1978 Islander Freeport 36 called Intrepid. She has spent the past year refitting the boat with the goal of doing more blue water cruising in the future.
